Many eons ago, much before the dawn of human civilization, there existed twin races of creatures. Although the two races have ancient names, nowadays they are simply know as Daywalkers, (creatures of Light) and Nightwalkers, (creatures of Darkness). For countless centuries, the races have been fighting a non-stop and bloody war, each side Hell-bent on making sure there will be no peace until there is extinction for one side.
This brings the situation to the current day, in a peacefully bustling city, where night has just fallen and the children of shadows have come out to play.
It was the first time this night that the man in the black trench coat had wandered the streets, he seemed a regular each and every night for the past three weeks. Every night he would patrol the same area, always ducking into the same alley when dawn begun to approach.
From what passersby could see, the man had on sunglass; he wore them every single night. His short silken black locks were ruffled though somehow neat all the same. Besides the trench coat, he usually wore a high-neck shirt and black pants, and so happened to be this night. No one could see his eyes, the lenses were too thick.
And it probably was a good thing.
Unbeknownst to the humans he passed on his patrol, this man was a Nightwalker, and one Hell of a strong one too. He had been sent personally by the fabled Dark Prince to search out a certain colony of Daywalkers inhabiting this city. He would have taken care of them sooner, but due to his species, sunlight would not allow him to live.
The man smiled as he walked past a chatty, lovey-dovey couple, the small metal ring on his lower lip curling with the grin.
"What a wonderful night," he uttered in a deep baritone.

At first there was that untraceable sound of humming, soft and jovial, unable to be heard amongst the loudness of the usual nightly crowd. The person that humming belonged to had the most unusual skip in his (or her) step that night. It was obvious s/he was in a good mood.
Too bad one wouldn't be able to comment upon it in the third person.
The child was nearly androgynous. Chin-length, brunette curls framed an ashen and delicate face, green eyes peering out under curtains of long, dark lashes.
And another odd thing to note was that it was dressed in all black, a tight choker reminiscent of a pet collar strapped around its neck, in an equal shade of ebony.
The creature wasn't watching where it was going in its happy little romp; that was obvious when it bumped into the Nightwalker lightly.
"Oh. Sorry."
That emerald gaze wandered up to the male before the child continued on its way, skipping down the sidewalk like a little girl during a game of hopscotch.

The man with the sunglasses paused in his tracks when the child ran into him, apparently stunned for a few moments. When he did move, he simply turned around to watch the merry one until he was out of sight.
A distinct frown surfaced upon that pale face.
"Maddox ," the man grunted to another a few feet away. Answering the gruff call was an almost identical person, looking much like the man who had called. Dressed in a trench coat, sunglasses, but the differences were a black baseball cap and a few inches.
It was another Nightwalker, a shorter, boyish one.
"...Yeah?" the boy grunted back in response as he tossed a paper wrapping into a nearby garbage, (he seemed to have just consumed a fast food burger) and wiped a dribble of grease from his chin.
"There is a Dawnwalker, or what appears to be one in our area, scout it out and take in into custody."
"Aaand, what about you, what're you gonna do?"
"Hmph, I'm going to see Alyssia…"
With a defeated nod, the smaller walker sighed as he began after the child down the street, shoving his gloved hands into his pockets.

The brunette seemed not to notice for a while, instead continuing his happy skipping... for a while. Something was bothering him. Something was behind him.
Was he being followed?
The child stopped abruptly.
"Is someone there...?" He looked behind him. Whatever he was sensing was unnerving.

"Yeah, someone is there, or, well, here...Whatever."
Leaning against a building, acting rather casually, was the shorter of the two men. Adjusting his black baseball cap as he pushed it up to get a better view of the other, a wicked smile played out on the creature's face.
"Ohoh, you are different, you gotta little bit ah everythin' in yah, I see. Well, buddy, just tell us all you know about where those blasted Daywalkers are, and my friend and I will be on your merry ways..."
Hm, there didn't seem to be anyone else around this weird trench coat guy.
He must have been a bum, or a lunatic, he sure sounded like one.
"How's about it? Wanna be a good little kid? Spill the beans, bud, or spill your guts..."
It was at that moment, the strange man started walking towards the other, a cruel smile playing out on his cold, pale face.

The brunette quickly swerved around, startled by that sudden voice. He suddenly found himself uneasy around this man. He just didn't like him, and with good reason as he soon concluded after the other's little speech.
"A Day...what?" He didn't know what that guy was talking about. His left eyebrow gave a downward curve as he looked on in confusion. "I don't know what you're talking about. Sorry."
There was a wavering in the child's voice that time as he backed up slightly, cautious about the other's sudden advance.
"What do you want with me?"
The brunette had the sudden urge to run. Fast.

"What I want is to have a little chat with yah, is that so wrong?"
The man's voice, that creepy voice, spoke in a happy tone, coming from behind the boy. In some unexplainable way, the man had transported himself behind the other, and was now tapping lightly on the smaller shoulder.
"I just wanna ask you a few questions, that's all. No harm, no foul if yah answer them nice and quickly. C'mon, I'm really not in the mood to kill a child, it wouldn't be so much fun, but if I have to, I will."
This time, the man reacted faster than the boy could have ever hoped to.
Swiftly wrapping one incredibly strong arm around the other's chest, holding his arms to his chest, and the other arm locking over the boy's mouth, the man grunted as he began to pull the other into a dark alley.
"Now, dammit, be a nice boy and come with us, we've got some questions..."

The kid didn't even have the chance to turn around...
"Let me go!" He tried to say. It would have came out that way, had the other not clamped his hand over the boy's mouth. He struggled, wiggling and squirming to try to get out of that grasp, wishing someone would help but no one even noticed.
People just kept walking as if they didn't even see or care.
With a muffled whimper the brunette squirmed in what seemed to be a futile attempt to fight back. He was getting desperate. So desperate that soon those thin lips parted and suddenly his teeth clamped down upon the other's flesh in a rather nasty bite.

"OW~!!”
Yelping in pain as he felt the bite, the man instantly let go, clutching his hand as he stared at the boy in wonderment and anger. What one didn't notice was the other's baseball cap had fallen off during the struggle, and what a sight it was.
This man had horns!
Whoever this was definitely not human, and when he took off his sunglasses to reveal fully black eyes, that was another obvious clue.
"You little bastard," grunted the creature as he grabbed the boy by the arm and threw him into the shadows of the alleyway, pulling out a long, thin cord from a pocket of his trench coat.
It was a whip.
"You damn dirty Dawnwalker, you'll pay for that!!"
The whip licked the boy's arm, creating a lovely bloody gash through fabric and skin.

A loud and pained cry left the boy's lips. Instantly his hand had traveled to the injury; that hot stinging feeling was still lingering. The gash only allowed his fingertips to graze over the injury softly; any more pressure caused an unbearable amount of pain. A sticky crimson stain was left upon his fingers, under his nails, as he drew away.
The brunette sniffled, stood; being flung into the alleyway had caused him to lose his balance, stumble and fall onto the cold pavement.
What did this man want with him?
Why wouldn't he leave him alone?
"Leave me alone," the child whimpered, holding his hands out at his sides, palms facing the cold air in front of him. What happened next was virtually untraceable by eyesight. The Dawnwalker had summoned a forcefield, already expecting another blow from the other's whip. One couldn't see the shield, however; the aura it gave off was practically invisible.
"Please..."

"Heeeeh?"
Pausing as he noticed the boy's strange stance, the creature heaved a sigh and gave a grand shrug of his shoulders. He never liked it when things were complicated, he hated complex issues.
"C'mon Dawnwalker, please don't make this hard. Man, and I was expecting it was goin' to be an easy night..."
The black whip lashed out, there was a green flash, and an alarmed exclamation.
The light startled the Nightwalker into backing away, pulling back his whip as he stared at the boy with a puzzled expression.
Then it downed on him.
"...You little sneak, putting up a force field! I'll smash that thing to pieces!!"
Flash after flash after flash.
"Dammit!! Why...can't...I...hit...YOU?!"

The brunette took a step back, a soft frown upon those upset features. The other still hadn't let up. Why? Why wouldn't he leave him alone...? He hadn't eaven noticed the man's unusual features due to his own fright.
Slowly the child's fear turned into frustration, as his outstretched hands balled into tense fists.
"Leave me ALONE!"
Suddenly as the boy's entire body tensed, a loud and horrid noise began to fill the air. It was absolutely ear-shattering, bone-chilling, reminiscent of the sound of metal scraping. It only got more and more unbearable and loud as seconds passed, already it had caused the normal pedestrians to pause and cover their ears.
"What is that crap!?"
"Make it stop!"
"What the hell IS that!?"
It was obvious when one managed to notice the boy's lack of reaction to the sound. He was the one creating it.

That shrill, piercing sound was absolute murder on the creature's sensitive ears as he nearly doubled-over in pain. Falling to his knees as he clutched his ears, the man writhed in agony on the ground, his whip land a few inches away from him. Gods, that sound hurt so damn much! And there was nothing he could do about it.
Well, there was someone who could.
"You there, Dawnwalker..."
Someone was standing right behind the boy, someone who seemed to be partially unaffected by the noise. Someone in a long black trench coat and sunglasses.
A man with short black hair and a silver lip ring.
Another Nightwalker.
And this one wasn't playing around.
There was an explosion that flashed in a display of green light as the blade of a dagger pressed up against the boy's throat, the metal making a small cut as the wielder pressed harder.
"Game's over, Dawnwalker, now come with us..."

The child winced, whimpered at the blade being held against his throat, the wound it had caused. Slowly, the noise let up before completely vanishing as if it had never happened. The human pedestrians recovered slowly, taking their hands from their ears and beginning to walk once more, to try to get on with their normal lives.
He should have realized he couldn't keep control over both powers for long.
"Please, Mister..." The trembling in the boy's voice was unmistakable. Soon his body was shaking as well, eyes lowered as if he were about to burst into tears. "I just want to go home..."
A choked sort of sob, a sniffle escaped the Dawnwalker as he continued trembling, tears coursing slowly down his cheeks in streams. He reached up to wipe moistened eyelids as his sobs became more audible and strengthened.

"I don't care..."
And that was all the poor child would get for a response as the man said nothing more to the other. He merely ignored the boy for the time being and looked over to his partner, who was just getting up from the ground. The shorter man shivered visibly at just the remembrance of that terrible sound.
"Ugh, that was so not fun," he murmured lightly before picking up his whip, sunglasses and baseball cap.
Meanwhile, the dangerously close dagger had finally eased off, just in time for two long fingers to jab into the soft flesh, instantly bringing on a bout of drowsiness. The man did not release his grip on the boy, however, even tightening it slightly as he muttered something to the other Nightwalker in a foreign tongue.
Whatever it was, there was no way the unfortunate Dawnwalker could have understood it.
