With a heavy sigh, the Prince shook his head, looking at the child with a passive expression, a shocked look appearing when he heard the boy's statement. Biting back his words, the royal Nightwalker shook his head, muttering to himself under his breath in a hushed tone.
"So, she hasn't told him yet..."
Kicking at the ground, the devious Nightwalker continued to walk away, absent-mindedly playing with his lip ring, even bothering to pull at it lightly. And just as before, it didn't budge at all. Mildly furious, Demitri walked a bit faster until he came across the elder female Nightwalker, a dark glint appearing in his remaining eye.
"Good evening, ma'am," he said in a mock-respect tone, "Nice beginning of a night, isn't it, you old bag. Oh, and I do mean that in the most respectful way possible, heh."

The boy looked back to the royal one, eventually shifted his to face him entirely. He wanted to go back to his grandmother now. What he had done wasn’t right. It wasn’t her fault he had to deal with that jerk.
He had to apologize.
Cricket managed a smile, stepping towards the elder one and swaying back and forth.
“Hey… do you think… we could look for my granma again?”
“Don’t you have something to do?” the woman’s eyes narrowed, her face darkening. Red lips formed a thin line of pure distaste. How could this man stand there and mock her while her grandchild – and his charge – had gone missing?
Then again, this was Demitri. She couldn’t and never had trusted him. Why start now? As long as he was supposed to be guarding her grandchild, she had to keep them both under her watch.
She pressed her fingertips to her temples, let go of a sigh. This was all so frustrating.
“If you’re going to stand here and attempt to insult me, then you might as well help me find the child you’re supposed to be looking after.”

Turning away from the woman, there came a strange squishing sound from the male Nightwalker, drops of blood dotting the floor as he held his remaining stolen eye in his hands. While he couldn't actually see it, he still looked down at it as if he could. A smile crept its way across the blind creature's face as he listened to the woman, a dark chuckle rising in his throat.
"If he's with Bastian," he said the name with utter disrespect and disgust, "then you shouldn't worry your ''pretty'' little head, my dear."
Laughing, he turned back to the female Nightwalker, his blind eyes shut as he played with the eyeball in his hands, tossing it up into the air a few times before he rose it up to his mouth, licked the side of it, then slipped the entire thing into his mouth, swallowing it after a few moments.
Looking at the young boy with a blank expression, he listened to the child's request, his eyes blinking as he processed what was being asked. When it looked like there was going to be no response, the Prince's face blossomed with a smile. Nodding his head, he laughed quietly to himself, addressing the boy happily.
"Well of course, come on, let's go find her." He held out his hand to the child, motioning for him to take it. A blast of nostalgia hit the older male as his thoughts tossed up a memory from a few decades past. He could almost taste the ice cream on his tongue now and couldn't help but smile wider. He missed those times, missed them dearly. He wished to go back to those times, when things weren't so dark as they are now.
"You know Cricket," said the royal Nightwalker softly chuckling, "you remind me of your father when he was your age, but, he was a bit more forgiving than you are."

His father? But he didn't have one! What was the Prince trying to pull? A skeptical sort of frown spread across the boy's face as he slowly took the male's hand, an eyebrow raising.
"I don't have a dad." He just said so. Why did the Prince think differently? "What are you talking about?"
He waited for the other to stand, eyes wide and glinting with distrust. He wasn't sure whether to believe the Prince. He was nice... but, he had to have been lying! Cricket didn't have a dad! If he did, Granma would have told him! He would have seen him by now, right?
The child made a tiny noise of frustration, averting his gaze to the floor. "You're lying." But how could he know for sure? "What else was he like, then?" Maybe he would ask Granma later. She ought to know.
How grotesque. The woman had to suppress a shudder from the sight before her; she turned her head and coughed lightly to gather herself. Demitri was probably happy over having disturbed her so. Well, he wouldn't receive any more of that satisfaction.
"If you'll excuse me," she rubbed at her temples, "I have to find my grandchild whether you feel any obligation to help or not."
And with that, she walked off, not so much as sending another look to the man.

Slowly stand up, the royal Nightwalker swallowed the small lump in his throat, his eyes flickering around as he tried to form some sort of reply to the boy. He presumed it was none of his business to be talking about these things, it was more the job for the female Nightwalker, but he wasn't going to just leave the child hanging. "W-well," he began a bit shakily, walking slowly down the hallways as he begun to reminisce about the past. "
He was...shy, a nice boy. He never had any friends when he was your age, he was lonely but gentle..." There was adoration in the man's voice as he spoke, a smile blossoming upon his face, "he was very kind as well. If it weren't for his, um, condition I'd take you to him, but I don't think it's the proper time yet." Sorrow replaced the Prince's smile as he shook his head softly.
"But don't worry, we're trying to fix him so he won't be sick anymore." He then offered the boy a smile of reassurance, nodding as he agreed with his own words.
Licking at his slimy fingers, the devious Nightwalker smiled when he could just imagine how he'd disturbed the woman. Ah, it was like a hobby of his, another sick and twisted hobby. He was upset himself, however, when he listened to her words and heard her walk away. Damn, that woman was absolutely no fun. Sighing heavily, the Nightwalker kicked at the ground, wandering off on his own in search of a fresh pair of eyes.
Meanwhile, elsewhere, thin pink lips curled into a scowl. Would it be the Knight...or the Queen? Damn it all! Finally, after what seemed like ages, the woman moved the Bishop instead.
"Checkmate, you Highness."
"Are you SERIOUS?!"
There were sounds of fury as the ruler of the Daywalkers, the Princess Alyssia, threw the chessboard up into the air in a fit of rage. She hated losing, then again, she hated a lot of things.

Sick? His father was sick? Was that why he didn't know him? It summoned forth so many burgeoning questions; he wasn't sure which to ask first.
"Oh." Cricket remained silent for those first few moments, hugging himself and rubbing at his upper arms. It was so cold suddenly. He wasn't wearing a shirt was he? "My dad... does he look funny like you?" He hadn't even thought of catching himself before he murmured that sentence!
Would the Prince get mad?
No wonder his next question seemed so hesitant. "What's wrong with him? A - and what about my mom? Do I have a mom?"
If the Prince knew his dad, maybe he knew his mom, right? Maybe they were married! Yeah! Everyone's mom and dad were married, weren't they? He knew a kid at school whose parents were divorced, but... his parents couldn't be!
Right??

"So, what're you doing?"
"Nothing, go away."
"Are you still mad about that boy?"
"No, go away."
"...Why are you always so mean? Why can't you lighten up a bit, Demmy?"
"Because, and don't call me that. Now, go away."
"F-funny?" Looking down at the boy, the royal Nightwalker quirked a brow, his eyes suddenly focusing on the fact that the child was without a shirt, the slightly taller male frowned softly. His long pale fingers began to pick at a knot tied around his neck, untying it slowly. The long gray cape that it was attached to separated from the Prince's royal ensemble. He grabbed onto it, pulling it out as he let the dull-colored thing drape over the boy's bare shoulders. The black-haired male said not a word of his deed though as he shook his head.
"Oh, the horns you must mean. No," he paused to chuckle softly, "he looks normal."
When the child asked about his own mother, the Nightwalker's eyes darkened and his face twisted into a scowling expression.
"I...I don't speak of your mother anymore, you'll have to ask your grandmother."

The boy frowned slightly, his gaze becoming askew. Why couldn’t the Prince talk about his mother? He knew her; he just proved it.
“Did she do something bad?” He looked… angry… when he first mentioned her. Was he angry at her? He had never seen her in person; maybe that was why he was angry. Granma never mentioned her either.
“What’s her name? Does she look like me?”
He couldn’t help but be curious, to try to pry answers out of the Prince. It could be ages until they found Granma a – and he had the right to know!
Cricket pulled his hand away to tighten the cape around his shoulders. It was his only source of warmth and warmth was something he didn’t want to lose. It was nice. Had he thanked him for the cape? He couldn’t remember, but it probably wasn’t as important.
